Located in Eustis' downtown right on the
lake, Ferran Park was constructed in 1923
using sand pumped in from the lake
bottom. A retaining wall, which still stands
today, holds the sand in place. This is one
of the oldest parks in Eustis

.

Ferran park also contains a memorial
to S.T.E. Pinkney, the first African-
American Mayor of Eustis. He served
three terms as Mayor, and was known
as a leader in education as well.

In 1954, a plaque to memorialize the
Orlando Tangelo was added to the
park. This variety of citrus, as well as
many others, was developed in Eustis

n addition, there is a Vietnam War
memorial, and a memorial fountain
dedicated to Edgar L. Ferran, founder
of Ferran's Department Store.

The park and the band shell were
placed on the National Register of
Historic Places in 1994. Intended as a
memorial park, it has many monuments
located throughout the grounds.
Located at the northern end of the park
is the Alice B. McClelland Memorial
Band Shell, constructed in 1926 by
Major William S. McClelland in honor of
his music-loving wife. The band shell
was moved to its current location in
1935. Originally located facing east
between Magnolia and Macdonald
Avenue, sounds from the band shell
echoed off the buildings in the
downtown district and the late
afternoon sun shone in patron's eyes.
The Band Shell was fully restored
beginning in 1992.

Today, the park continues to be the
centerpiece of downtown, the
waterfront, and the community.
