served three terms as Mayor, and was known as a leader in education
as well.

Tangelo was added to the park. This variety of citrus, as well
as many others, was developed in Eustis

The park and the band shell were placed on the
National Register of Historic Places in 1994. Intended as a memorial
park, it has many monuments located throughout the grounds. Located
at the northern end of the park is the Alice B. McClelland
Memorial Band Shell, constructed in 1926 by Major William S.
McClelland in honor of his music-loving wife. The band shell was
moved to its current location in 1935. Originally located facing
east between Magnolia and Macdonald Avenue, sounds from the band
shell echoed off the buildings in the downtown district and the
late afternoon sun shone in patron's eyes. The Band Shell was fully
restored beginning in 1992.

Today, the park continues to be the centerpiece
of downtown, the waterfront, and the
community. |
